How often do we get into situations that we didn’t see coming and wind up disappointed, angry or in conflict with someone who matters? The blind spot analogy is in reference to a place on the road when you are driving that you can’t see. You can position the mirrors as well as you can, but there is a space that is usually so close to your car that it is not covered by either your rear view mirror or your side mirror.

Instead, I distracted myself with minutiae. The word minutiae (pronounced muh-NOO-shee) means unimportant, trivial stuff. I reminded myself of children when they're afraid of the dark, imagining a monster in the closet or under the bed. They cover their heads hoping not to see the monster they imagine is in their room. There is a lot happening in the world that can be scary. If you get information from social media, you may even be influenced by AI-generated media. Much of what we see and hear is designed to generate fear. There, I've said it. Although there is reason for concern and vigilance when we consider the mindsets behind changes in our world, how you respond will make the difference between sleepless nights and a joyful life. Yes, joy is still possible, even in turmoil.
